WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART

Concerto for violin and orchestra No. 3 in G major, KV 216

Despite the short life of Austrian genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, his creative heritage is extremely rich. And while he touched on almost every musical genre, it was not until 1775- 1777 that Mozart was intrigued by the violin concerto. He composed five violin concertos and never returned to the genre. The violin concertos do not contain tragic or pathetically tumultuous episodes so characteristic of his piano concertos.

The Third Concerto in G major expertly reveals the soloist’s virtuosity. The orchestral sound is transparent and graceful, and the soloist’s is extraordinarily ornate. The music of the first movement (Allegro) is cheerful and elegant. The second movement (Adagio) is distinguished by a cantilena of extraordinary beauty. The noble finale (Rondo. Allegro) is based on continuously alternating contrasting episodes – fiery, flamboyant, pastoral.

Mozart’s expressive opus is performed by violin virtuoso Sergej Krylov and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under his direction.
