Jubilisma was commissioned by FortVio to mark the ensemble’s 20th anniversary. The work brings together contrasting tuning systems, microtonal harmony and echoes of Middle Eastern maqam traditions. Specially retuned piano and harp open up a distinctive harmonic space in which the solo trio and orchestra continually exchange roles. The orchestra acts as an acoustic synthesiser, weaving together layered sound masses, subtle beating patterns and resonances.
