ANATOLIJUS ŠENDEROVAS

Piano Trio No.1

The music of Anatolijus Šenderovas, one of the foremost Lithuanian contemporary composers, recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art, stands out for a distinct style, open emotionality, melodiousness, and a moderate use of the most radical modern compositional means. With his very sincere music, the composer was able to reach into the heart of every listener.

The composer’s chamber music is closely associated with the activity of the first Lithuanian piano trios, pioneered by his father, the cellist Michailas Šenderovas (who played with Aleksandras Livontas and Olga Šteinbergaitė, Stasys Vainiūnas, Viktoras Radovičius and Marieta Azizbekova). Anatolijus Šenderovas wrote his first Piano Trio in 1971. The technically complex composition displays a great sense of genre, timbral and dramaturgical variety, saturated with drama, dynamic play and contrasts characteristic of the composer’s early work.

Šenderovas’ expressive opus is interpreted by the Grand Trio Vilnius piano trio: Dalia Kuznecovaitė (violin), Davidas Geringas (cello), Petras Geniušas (piano).
