MYKOLAS TREŠČENKINAS

Dedication to Gaon

Sacred music and works for choir make up a considerable part of the output of Mykolas Treščenkinas, a Lithuanian composer of the younger generation. With his works, he has participated in various competitions, where he has repeatedly won prizes. Fascinated by Mykolas’ creative language during one competition, conductor Juozas Mantas Jauniškis suggested that the young composer create a symphonic canvas dedicated to the Vilnius Gaon. This is how the composer’s opus Dedication to Gaon was brought into being. “The creative process drew me into Gaon’s mystical life. I did not compose with feelings, but with mind. Perhaps this symphonic canvas is a bit unusual for the listener, especially the last bars of the piece. It ends with hope and the question “what will happen next?”. It is as if Gaon is not completely disclosed, leaving a part of himself with him”, Treščenkinas said about the work.

The premiere of the work dedicated to the 300th birth anniversary of the Vilnius Gaon Elijah Ben Solomon Zalman is performed by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Juozas Mantas Jauniškis.
