Joseph Achron, American and Russian violinist and composer of Litvak origin, was interested in and actively researching Jewish music. The Jewish theme permeated his instrumental and vocal, secular and religious works. Its expressive character and intonations are also conveyed in his popular Children’s Suite for clarinet, string quartet and piano, op. 57. The musical language of the composition also masterfully intertwines romantic moods and impressionistic colours. Via micro details, Children’s Suite subtly and intricately explores the world of children’s fantasies, humour, dreams, disappointments, games and desires. The whole mosaic of memories revisits a fun horseback riding, blowing of colourful soap bubbles, a heartache due to a damaged favourite toy, sprightly little monkeys, a giant elephant and many other musical images.
Through sounds of music clarinettist Vytautas Giedraitis, Čiurlionis Quartet and pianist Simona Zajančauskaitė present tender and nostalgic childhood scenes.
