Gerónimo Giménez was a Spanish conductor and composer. In 1885, he worked as a conductor of the Teatro Apolo, later he conducted at Teatro de la Zarzuela and Teatro Lirico. Giménez is best known for his zarzuelas El baile de Luis Alonso, La Boda de Luis Alonso and La Tempranica. These zarzuelas captivate with their fiery character, masterly instrumentation and vivid means of musical expression.
Perhaps the most popular excerpt from the composer’s instrumental zarzuelas is the playful and witty Intermedia from La boda de Luis Alonso, a medley of traditional Spanish dances. One of the main themes of the Intermedia is the seguidilla, the character of which is highlighted by the accompaniment of castanets.
An expressive excerpt from the zarzuela is performed by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by Maestro Modestas Barkauskas.
