Composer Feliksas Bajoras welcomed his 90th birthday in his own style – reviewing and editing old works and composing new ones. Constant change, the search for original and new musical solutions have accompanied the composer throughout his life. “What you said in the past is no longer interesting now. What was written about my work in the past is no longer true,” says Bajoras.
The first version of the Concerto for violin and orchestra (1999), considered to be one of the most challenging examples of the genre written by Lithuanian composer, is dedicated to violinist Raimundas Katilius. Its new version, composed in 2023, was premiered in F. Bajoras jubilee concert. Janusz Wawrowski, the renowned Polish violinist who performed the solo part, shared his impressions of the anticipation of the premiere: “This Violin Concerto requires a lot of preparation. It is very virtuosic, but it also has many beautiful moments where I can demonstrate the quality of the sound. I’m looking forward to this concert because being part of a premiere is always a very exciting experience – you don’t know one hundred per cent of the way the piece will sound until you go on stage. I hope we will all enjoy this special event.”
