This Symphony is a striking example of the strong and indomitable side of Beethoven’s personality, where even as his deafness progressed, the composer enthusiastically conveyed joy and optimism. Here, his ‘hero’ believes in the good. The undeniable magic of this work lies in its unrelenting and compelling rhythmic feast. The dotted rhythms imbue the Symphony with the character of a dance. It is not for nothing that Wagner called the Seventh “the apotheosis of dance”. The Symphony was first performed on 8 December 1813 in Vienna, conducted by the composer. During a highly successful premiere, accompanied by thunderous applause, the second movement, the magnificent Allegretto, had to be repeated. Thanks to its enduring popularity, it is often performed as a stand-alone work to this day. Beethoven’s masterpiece is performed by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Andreas Spering (Germany)."}
