At the age of 16, the young genius visited Milan with his father Leopold for the premiere of the young composer’s opera Lucio Silla. Mozart was struck by the voice of the castrato Venanzi Rauzzini, who sang the role of the protagonist Cecil. “He sang like an angel”, declared the composer. Three weeks later, Mozart composed the motet Exsultate, jubilate to further reveal Rauzzini’s extraordinary talent. Indeed, this motet is a three-movement composition requiring the highest vocal technique, full of complex technical leaps, embellished with ornamentations and fioritures. Nowadays, the motet is usually performed by coloratura sopranos. Mozart’s motet Exsultate, jubilate is performed by the young generation opera soloist, soprano Lina Dambrauskaitė, together with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sergej Krylov.
